Cocktail Friday: Guava Jalapeño Margaritas

Hi. Do you like margaritas that aren’t obnoxiously sweet? A fan of fresh ingredients instead of stuff that comes out of a plastic bottle? Nice – you’re in the right place.

I’m all about spicy margaritas, but sometimes they can be jalapeno-heavy. The guava nectar is a nice balance to the heat, so you can sip on these without water refills.

Guava Jalapeño Margaritas (makes 2)

  • 1/2 cup of freshly-squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon of jalapeno-infused simple syrup (to make, add equal parts sugar + water to a pan with 1 jalapeno, heat until sugar is dissolved and let jalapeno sit for 1 hr)
  • 4 oz of good tequila
  • 2-3 splashes of guava nectar (to taste)
  • Salt for glass rim
  • 1 fresh jalapeno, sliced
  • 1 lime
Combine lime juice, simple syrup, tequila, guava + a few slices of jalapeno to shaker. Muddle jalapeno, shake and pour over ice in salt-rimmed glasses. Add extra slices of jalapeno and lime wedges for garnish.
